Your partner's semen needs to follow a set of instruction pre & post collection. Read this blog to find out more.
What is semen analysis?
This is a basic test to see if your semen contains the right number of sperms with a good proportion of normal-looking sperms that are able to move rapidly.
How is this test done?
First of all, we need you to collect your semen. We will provide you with a clean, sterile, non-toxic container.
Please read the following guidelines before collecting the sample:
If the sample is collected at home, deliver the sample to the laboratory within 30 minutes of collection.
During transport to the laboratory, the sample should be kept at 37°C or by bodily contact (trouser pocket).
How is semen analysis done?
If you are currently taking any medications, please inform the physician prior to collecting your sample.
Make sure that the container is labeled with your name and your partner’s name, days of abstinence, the date and time of collection.
First, pass urine before collecting semen.
Wash your hands and penis thoroughly and rinse well and dry with tissue paper. (Do not use soap).
Please avoid collection during intercourse as the first part of the semen which contains the maximum number of sperms will be lost.
Do not use condoms during collection. These contain a substance that will kill sperms. (Only special, non-toxic condoms designed for semen collection can be used).
The sample should be obtained by masturbation and ejaculated into a clean, wide-mouth sterile container.
Do not touch the inner portion of the sterile container with hands.
Do not spill water or urine inside the specimen container.
Do not spill the sample. Make sure that all the ejaculate is collected into the container.
