Surrogacy is an arrangement, supported by a legal agreement, whereby a woman agrees to bear a child for another person or persons, who will become the child's parent after birth. A Traditional Surrogate, which isn't practised in India now where both donates her own egg and carries a pregnancy for an individual or couple.

In Gestational Surrogacy, a surrogate mother agrees to carry a pregnancy for another person. The biological mother provides her genetic material via her egg (or occasionally from an egg donor), the intended father provides his sperm (or a sperm donor), and through in vitro fertilization, an embryo is created. This embryo will be transferred to the gestational carrier.

Indications:

  • The absence of the uterus.(maybe by birth or hysterectomy)
  • Uterine abnormalities, hostile for pregnancy.
  • Repeated IVF/ICSI failure.
  • Medical conditions for which pregnancy is contra indicated.
